Our brief was to design and create multiple structural frames at a global pharmaceutical HQ. The frames were vital to support both high and low grade, water pipework for air handling units. Where possible, all suspension were kept from the soffit to enable the floor to be left clear for coil replacement and other maintenance.
MIDFIX’s challenge was to propose a solution taking into account the building’s existing structure. Our specialist team undertook a site visit and used a 3D-CAD model to enable us to produce a design in fitting with the building. Technical challenges included hanging supports from the roof structure.
We provided a concept design solution using Navis works 3D modelling which took the pipework structure, fluid weight and clash checks into consideration for multiple areas of the building.
After proposing the initial designs, the project was commissioned, assembled in our workshop and delivered to site for installation. To date, we have designed, pre-fabricated and delivered over 50 structural frames which have since been installed. All supports were validated by our stress analysis, calculations and reports. The project also put our specialist prefabrication/welding team to the test who only had 1-2 days to pre-fabricate.
